Empty Beds: An International Call for Peace and Awareness

The Senate of the Republic hosted an international exhibition focused on remembrance, human dignity, and the devastating impact of armed conflict on children.

The World Organization for Peace (WOFP/OMPP), represented by its Department of International Relations and led by Master Gustavo Arriaga Mosqueda, accepted a warm invitation from the Honorable Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Embassy of Ukraine in Mexico to attend the international exhibition “Empty Beds” (Camas Vacías). Held at the Senate of the Republic in Mexico City, the event featured remarks by His Excellency Serhii Pohoreltsev, Ambassador of Ukraine to Mexico, and Her Excellency Agnieszka Frydrychowicz-Tekieli, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Mexico. Both ambassadors emphasized the critical need to keep global attention focused on the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the armed conflict in Ukraine.

The “Empty Beds” exhibition is a powerful exercise in remembrance, empathy, and social reflection. Through photographs, symbolic installations, and recreated empty children’s bedrooms, the showcase sheds light on the devastating toll of war. It highlights the plight of more than 20,000 children who have been separated from their families, displaced from their homes, or directly impacted by the conflict.

Each empty bed on display represents a profound loss, a shattered childhood, and a family left in painful uncertainty. The exhibition’s visual storytelling delivers a deeply moving message, urging the international community to stand against indifference toward civilian casualties, especially children. During the tour, diplomatic representatives reiterated the urgent need to strengthen global cooperation, humanitarian aid, and human rights protections. They emphasized that true peace goes beyond the mere absence of war; it requires the continuous creation of conditions that guarantee dignity, safety, and well-being for all.

Furthermore, speakers highlighted the vital importance of international initiatives dedicated to protecting children in conflict zones, alongside diplomatic and humanitarian efforts aimed at family reunification and restoring fundamental rights. The active involvement of the World Organization for Peace in this landmark international event reaffirms our institutional commitment to fostering peace, strengthening global dialogue, and defending human dignity as the foundation of any democratic and supportive society.

At the WOFP, we recognize the value of creating spaces for reflection and international cooperation that expose the human cost of armed conflicts while promoting a culture rooted in respect, empathy, and peaceful resolutions. The WOFP will continue to strengthen its ties with diplomatic missions, international bodies, and civil society organizations dedicated to human rights. We remain deeply convinced that cooperation and mutual understanding are the only paths toward a fairer, more humane, and peaceful world.
